IMPORTANT Message to MembershipPosted March 13, 2020
As we are all aware, we have many challenges to face, however the health of our families, students, ourselves and those around us has taken exceptional importance. As the saying goes “A healthy person has many wishes, a sick person has only one”. My wish for all of you is to be healthy and stay healthy in this climate of uncertainty.
With that being said, we must also remain calm, take precautions but most importantly, not to panic unnecessarily. You should be aware that all levels of government, your association and our employer are all working together in taking steps to monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation. The most recent information can be reached at the Alberta Health Services site, AHS .
Please take note of the following very important changes to our association schedule;
- Together with our Bargaining Agent, Cory Schoffer, HR Superintendent Richard Svoboda, and ATA Local 55; The Bargaining Unit General Meeting (BUGM) originally scheduled for Thursday April 2 is postponed. With all gatherings in excess of 250 people now restricted it is impossible and imprudent to proceed on that date. As we are unaware of the evolving nature of the current public health situation, we will not be establishing a new date at this time. As soon as it is practicable, we will establish a new date and advise you of it.
- The upcoming CSR scheduled for March 31st will also be cancelled and will resume with the April CSR scheduled for April 28th.
We hope that by taking these precautions, of maintaining social distance, we can prevent further escalation of the situation.
Thank you for your patience, stay safe and healthy.
President, Alberta Teachers’ Association, Local 55
